Tudors, Trowels and a Trench

Saturday saw Enrichment Through Archaeology at the Dove Valley Centre at Under Whitle Farm in Sheen for their Tudor Farming Day.  This was the end of a fun-packed week for Peak Park rangers and landowners Elspeth and Paul Walker, who had taken local school children back in time to learn all about how the Tudors farmed their land.

Activities on the day included dressing in Tudor outfits, spinning, weaving, farming, gathering vegetables and herbs, cooking, and making reed lights.  Families watched a re-enactment of skulduggery at Under Whitle Farm, met a Tudor doctor, and discovered how to research local history and write with a quill.  They also had their chance to try their hands at archaeological excavation.

The sun was shining, children were smiling, and even a lizard came out to play!

Keep your eyes out for other activities taking place throughout the year at The Dove Valley Centre
